Carl Schultz is a South African winemaker and founder of Solo Wines. After 32 years as Cellarmaster at Hartenberg Estate, he established Solo Wines in 2025 as a small, focused wine project crafted under his personal direction. With a long and respected career behind him, Carl remains firmly driven by the belief that his best wine is still ahead.

 

Rooted in experience and guided by restraint, Solo Wines reflects a thoughtful approach to winemaking – one shaped by balance, care, and an uncompromising attention to detail. Produced in limited volumes, the wines pursue a clear sense of place and authenticity, favouring precision over scale and expression over excess.

Solo Wines Syrah - 2023 Harvest

Solo Syrah

Deep garnet in colour, the wine is concentrated yet composed. Intensity drawn from naturally small berries is balanced by careful, measured oak maturation, allowing both depth and elegance to coexist without excess.

Solo Wines - 2023 Harvest

Solo Merlot

Structured and refined, with purity of fruit shaped by elevation and natural depth drawn from clay-rich soils. Oak is applied with restraint, adding nuance and complexity while remaining firmly in service of terroir expression.

Solo Wines Cabernet Sauvignon - 2023 Harvest

Solo Cabernet Sauvignon

Powerful but never heavy, this Cabernet shows intensity from thick-skinned berries and layered detail from extended, thoughtful oak maturation. The result is a wine of structure, depth, and quiet authority.
